•How does Eco-Drive work?     Citizen Eco-Drive watches use the simplest, yet most technically advanced power generating and storage system in the Watch Manufacturing Industry. A Solar conversion panel and energy cell are the power provider for these Quartz Watches. Eco-Drive's ability to use light from any source to generate electrical power means that the supply is limitless and free. The absence of any added complex power generating machinery that would require additional upkeep is another big advantage.

•What is a Solar Panel?     The Eco-Drive watch uses a microns thin disc of amorphous Silicon under the dial to convert light energy into electrical energy through the photovoltaic process. The electrical energy is then stored in a special energy storage cell . The charging is done in a more efficient manner than was ever before thought possible. Because of this newly developed technology, it is now practical to use a wide variety of attractive dials.

•How is Energy stored in the watch?     A special Eco-Drive energy storage cell is used to store the electricity from the converted light energy. The high quality of the cell precludes it from being affected from the regular charge/discharge cycle as with an ordinary battery. With normal care and exposure to light, the owner can be assured of a lifetime of reliable and trouble free power. As an added benefit to the environment, the energy cell contains none of the chemicals used in ordinary watch batteries.

•How long will the energy storage cell last?     With normal care the Eco-Drive Energy Cell will last a lifetime of use.

•Why does the second hand jump in 2 second increments?     This is a low power warning function and indicates that the reserve power is getting low and the energy cell needs to be fully recharged by exposing it to light for a period of time outlined in your owner's manual. This may also occur after fully recharging your watch after a complete discharge of the energy cell. If you have fully charged your watch and the second hand continues to move in two second intervals, you need to do an all reset of the watch. For simple analog models, pull the crown out to the time setting position for 30 seconds, then return the crown to the closed position next to the case, then set the time. For multi-function models, please refer to your owners manual.

•Why didn't my watch come with bracelet sizing instructions?     As many bracelets require special expertise and experience to size, we do not include sizing instructions. Unless you have experience in sizing bracelets, the pins can become damaged leading to failure of the pin. We highly recommend you seek the assistance of an experienced technician.

•How do I get a replacement instruction manual?     Downloadable/Printable instructions can be found in the settings section of the Citizen website.

•How Water Resistant is my watch?     If your watch is water is water resistant, there will be clear markings on the back such as Water Resist, WR, or Water Resistant. If there is no indication, then your watch is NOT water resistant and you should take great care not to get your watch wet. Citizen water resistant watches comply with ISO 2281 or 6425 testing standards.

•What is BAR or ATM?     Water resistance is measured in BAR's or ATM's when the watch is in a static (motionless) state. One BAR or ATM is equivalent to the pressure at 10 metres under water. One thing to keep in mind is that we live at 1 atmosphere of pressure. This means that when a watch is water resistant to 3 "BAR or ATM", it is water resistant to 20 metres under water, not 30 metres as many people believe.

•How can I make sure my watch remains water resistant?     Water resistance is not a permanent feature of your timepiece. The rubber gaskets utilized in sealing your watch deteriorate over time. These gaskets can experience accelerated deterioration if you expose your timepiece to salt or chlorinated water, soaps and chemicals. We recommend having the gaskets replaced in your timepiece periodically.

•Where can I obtain spare parts for Citizen watches?     For spare parts including watch straps or bracelet please call 0121 233 7457 Mon-Sat 9.00 to 16.45 GMT or email:susan@creativewatch.co.uk

•How often should I change the battery in a non-Eco-Drive watch?     It is always best to have the battery in your watch replaced at regular intervals, except Eco-Drive watches, to reduce the risk of damage to the movement from leaking fluids from an expired battery. An expired battery has a greater chance of leaking fluids that could result in expensive repairs. If your battery expires while in the watch, have it replaced by qualified personnel as soon as possible. If your watch is water resistant, be sure to have the gaskets replaced and the watch water tested at the same time.

•What is the proper way to care for the watch band and case?     As the watchband touches the skin directly on the user's wrist, it becomes dirty easily with perspiration and dust. Many watch owners are not aware of the necessity of keeping the watchcase and band clean. Perspiration or dust absorbed by a leather band, in particular, can cause a breakdown of the leather reducing the life of the strap. In the case of a metal band, perspiration and dust sticks more easily due to its structure. The use of a contaminated watch band will not only reduce the life of your bracelet and connecting pins, but may also soil clothing that may come in contact with it.

•How long will gold plating last on my watch?     The gold plated watch bands and cases on Citizen watches will retain their beauty for a long time if care is exercised while wearing them. Using the watch while working around dust or dirt should be avoided as these are abrasives and result in ruining the appearance of the band. Scraping the band and watch against rough hard surfaces should be avoided as well. You should not attempt to polish a plated bracelet or case as the machinery and compounds used may remove the plating. Newer Citizen watches are PVD plated, a technique which bonds the plating with the metal underneath, preventing flaking of the finish as with traditional electroplated finishes.

•What does the chronograph on my watch do?      Simply stated, the chronograph is a feature to measure elapsed time, similar to the function of a stopwatch. There are a variety of types from 30 minute to 24 hour chronographs. Some models are quite complex incorporating other advanced features such as: calendar, alarms, multiple time zones, countdown timer, depth metre and others. Your owner's manual will outline the features of your particular model.
